Inside of us all, a hero lies. For some, it rises up and shows itself through an extraordinary act of courage and selflessness. On the battlefields of their everyday lives, these incredible individuals are moved to act. And so they go willingly, selflessly, courageously – above and beyond.

Above & Beyond is a highly visible public platform built upon the foundations of Abraham Lincoln and the Medal of Honor he created in 1861, as our nation’s highest military honor for valor. Above & Beyond is inspired by the 3,465 heroic individuals who have received it over the course of our nation’s history, and by the ideals of courage, sacrifice, integrity, patriotism, commitment and citizenship associated with the Medal of Honor itself.

The Above & Beyond Citizen Honors is presented by the 105 living Medal of Honor recipients who constitute the Society. These awards will celebrate the best of America by profiling spectacular stories of individuals who demonstrate service over self. The heroic examples of the Medal of Honor recipients, along with the Above & Beyond Citizen Honorees, will continue to inspire long after the presentation ceremony. These remarkable citizens stand to remind each and every one of us that for Americans, anything is possible.
